San Diego great restaurants

Hello! I am planning an event meant to impress folks. I am looking for a beautiful, centrally located place to have a great meal. Price is no object.

How many people will you have to accommodate?

We would like to accomodate about 100 people for a cocktail event. Butlered drinks and hors d'oeuvres. It would be great if there were space to have some sort of entertainment as well.

Liz, have you considered using a party planner, rather than just looking for a restaurant - especially if price is no object? They can arrange events, with entertainment, in some really impressive places. I don't have anyone specific to recommend, but try a search for "party planner san diego".

Thanks, Barbara--I have found a party planner. I was really just hoping to get advice from someone who has no affiliations with particular places...I was thinking having a local's perspective would be most helpful. Have you heard of a place called Aubergine? She recommended it.

I'm from San Diego and have a couple of suggestions; I'm not sure if they accomodate parties though.

The Aubergine is good.
Top of the Cove in La Jolla on Prospect
George's at the Cove in La Jolla on Prospect (both these places overlook the ocean and have excellent food)

There are a ton of restaurants in the Gaslamp Quarter which is right downtown.

There's the Hotel del Coronado where you can get a ballroom or there's Peohe's.

Good luck!

Liz, I agree with APV. Another downtown restaurant is Bertrand's at MrA's. This place has views over the whole downtown area and beyond. No idea if they do this kind of thing. I do know it's very expensive and the food is very good. Also, ask your planner if they have access to the University Club.

The University Club is an excellent idea if you can get access to it. The views are unbeatable and the food is excellent. Although Top of the Cove and Georges are excellent restaurants, they are not that big and I am not sure that a party of 100 would be best there. The Marine Room has a great ocean view location, good food and is a large restaurant, the food is not considered on par with the top restaurants in town. But you may want to check into it. Mr. "A" has great views but average food. Really check out the University Club - that would impress folks.
