What to do for 2 weeks in early Sept in San Diego?
Must use transportation because of Balance Problems.
Good Restaurants to eat at especially Thai and Italian?
Is the Residence Inn Downtown/Gaslamp a good place to stay?
Any info would be appreciated.

Just returned from a week in SD.
Don't know about Thai, but for Italian I can highly recommend Cucina Urabana in the Banker's Hill neighborhood which is not too far from Downtown. You can walk over to Balboa Park for a nice after dinner stroll.

We ate here in May; we had a nice lunch:http://www.royalthaicuisine.com/
467 5th Ave
(between Island Ave & J St)
For our first trip, I used this guide - it was very helpful:

Disabled persons/seniors pay 1/2 price on Trolley and buses:

I guess it depends on what you are looking for in a San Diego experience- I thought the Gaslamp was fine for an evening but I would much rather be in one of the N County towns- I love Carlsbad- but would be happy staying in Solana Beach, Del Mar, La Jolla or any of the beach towns- and San Diego is quite accessible from most of the beach towns by using the train- the Coaster. ( train does not stop in La Jolla - can't remember if it stops in Del Mar)
If you decide to stay in the Gaslamp, at least make a trip up the coast- you can go as far as Oceanside on the Coaster.
