I can't get reservations in downtown Salt Lake City for the two nights we are going to be there - something must be going on because even a fair number of airport hotels are full. DH went on line and found Ben Lomand Suites in Ogden, which looked nice. Has anyone stayed there? What is Ogden like?

Did you check around Sandy? There is a good light rail system that comes from Sandy into SLC. Flying into SLC?
I have stayed in Ogden when I was passing through E-W but not going into Salt Lake City.
Coming from the south, we stayed in Provo the night before our trip out of town.
We're staying two nights - the end of our trip - then flying out of SLC. I think Ogden is about 30 minutes from airport? I'll look into Provo and Sandy. DH wants to (and I do, too) stay in a "fun" hotel our last couple of nights - "fun" being non-chain, historical, different.
hmm, well the only way to get that is to stay in a city vs. a suburb. Ogden is closer than Provo--what about Park City? Lots of awesome places there. Or Snowbird or Solitude ski resort. Ogden is ok. Park City would be better.
Actually, we're staying in Park City the night before - visiting my niece and her family for an afternoon/night/morning. We will enjoy visiting, but we see them fairly often when they visit here and would prefer to be "just us" on our vacation. If we stay in Park City I would feel obligated to visit more.
Then stay in one of the Cottonwood Canyons. I think Little definitely has better dining with Snowbird and the Shallow Shaft restaurants. Are you interested in B&Bs? There are lots of those in SLC. Did you look at the Hotel Monaco-it is downtown but can be overlooked in favor of chains--so you might have a shot there.
I cannot imagine staying in Ogden by choice.
Little cottonwood is nice but Shallow Shaft is only open a few nights a week.
