Salida Colorado - a quick report (not really a trip report)

Spent a couple nights in Salida to go rafting. Here are some comments/observations.

Downtown: Salida is proud of its downtown. We found it overrated, but there are some art and antiques stores.

Restaurants:

Amicas Pizza: Good food. It is "order at the door then find a seat" place. Just know that going in. In our situation, it made it a bit rushed, and the place gets busy with little room inside to wait.

Boathouse Cantina: Great location and view of the river. Food was good, unfortunately our service wasn't.

Walbanger's sports bar: Ironically, this was our best meal experience in Salida. It isn't downtown. Not fancy, but good food and service.

Hotel:

Stayed at the Hampton Inn, which are usually cookie cutter and very passable. This one was a little lacking.

Rafting:

We used Independent Whitewater, but there are plenty of options. Excellent trip through Brown Canyon with enough to keep you excited, but ok for young and old alike. One thing we liked about IW is that they broke up the groups going out so we were in a small group, whereas when we loaded into the river there was a company putting maybe 10 boats in together. In my limited experience, the more boats the slower the group.

Extra: We stopped at the Royal Gorge Brewing Company in downtown Canon City on the way to Salida. We enjoyed our food and beer there, but almost didn't go in because the exterior and its visible brewing equipment looked tacky. Inside was neat, though.
