Visiting Tucson in August, would love to schedule quick trip to Nogales, Mexico for folk art purchases. We were in Tucson this past December, and didn't do that because of reports of drug violence. Does that still hold true?
Safe to visit Nogales, Mexico?

Joe Tro's Seattle trip report

I wouldn't hesitate to go there during the day. I don't think the drug violence is affecting the average person that goes down to get a prescription filled or do some shopping.
dwc - when did they start requiring prescriptions ??! LOL
absolutley, go to Nogales! I live in Tucson and wouldn't hesitate to travel there as a tourist. The merchants are hurting for business, and if you are just going to the tourist area there is no reason not to go! Be sure to check out The Lazy Frog and El Changarro for the best folk art, although the street vendors have great stuff also!
