How is Kentucky route 9 from I-64 Grayson area to Cincinnati? Is it mostly two lane? This would be a September trip so weather would not be a factor.

Out of curiosity, how are you getting to the Grayson area?
Coming from VA via I-81 and I-64. Mapquest says to get off at exit 172 and take KY1/KY7 toward Grayson to rte 9.
Alternative is to stay on 64 west to I-75 n or take rte 50 from Winchester all the way through. Both are longer timewise and milewise.

If you look at a map you'll see that I64 swings 'way south. No need to do that. I assume you are going to Cincy. Take route 52 along the Ohio River. It is 4 lane most if not all the way. It has been a while since I went to Cincy on it, but I get it at I77/I64. Let me look and I'll come back.
Get on I64 from I81, and then at Huntington WVA, take 52/23 north. Take 52 to Cincinnati. We used to do this often when our daughter was in school there, and I do it reglarly now as far as Portsmouth, and then head north toward Dayton there. It is a good road, and interesting drive along the river.
I think it is just 52 at Huntington. 23 is further down I64. The google map I looked at wasn't quite the way I remember the road.
lincasanova, neat film clip.
GretchEN, 52 looks good and we'll go that way. I used to go to Huntington weekends from Norfolk with a buddy during our Navy days in the early fifties.
Big difference in the roads getting there now!
