Route 50 between Virginia and Missouri--Scenic?
Will be traveling from Wash, DC to St Paul, MN with a toddler. We have 2-3 days to get back (Fri-Sun), and thinking of taking Route 50 to St Louis (because I really want to see the arch) then up Route 39 to WI. Is Route 50 a worthwhile, fairly speedy, and somewhat scenic route? Also, any recommendations on a good overnight stop (location) between DC and St Loius? We would probably stay in airbnb lodging, just FYI. Thanks!

Btw, this will be the tail end of a 2 week road trip. We could opt for taking Route 50 through WV and then heading up I-77 to I-70 west (due to lack of quality sightseeing time). So, maybe my question should be--Route 50 through WV scenic??

I have a friend who drove it with his son from Ocean City, MD, to somewhere west of Denver.
They had a great trip. It can be slow, but you can use interstates to get around cities or between cities, using 50 as an urban route.
If you haven't used them, Wikipedia has wonderful highway articles/ itineraries under the heading of "US Route ____". Look up the one on US 50. It has an amazing amount of information.
Kansas and Eastern Colorado are very boring by any route.

Here is a better response.
Yes, this is a very scenic route between Washington, DC, through the blue grass and horse farm country of Kentuckly.
Only do Hampton Inns for overnights, so not much help on other lodging.

Thanks for your reply. It looks like the 50 doesn't go through Kentucky, though I would love to go through that part of the country. I just don't think we have the time (so St Louis is likely out this trip as well). I think we'll do a little bit of Route 50 and then hop on the 70/74 and maybe stay overnight somewhere in WV or OH.
