Our family of 6 or 7 adults would like to attend the Rose Parade on January 1, 2014. Can anyone offer advice on the best way to go about this. Is a package deal the best option (hotel, parade tickets, parking) or purchase each item separately)? Is there a preferred airport? We appreciate any input.,

Any airport in Sourthern Cal - even San Diego- could work, but LAX is probably the one with the most flights, etc.

FYI - from SD to Pasadena - we have left at 4:30 in the morning - and driven up (just under two hours to get to the Arroyo Secco turnoff) - and parked and found a place along the parade route - (we like the start area) - but it's getting harder to do that. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/12/31/rose-parade-route-2013-street-closures-pasadena_n_2389149.html
You can try to get a package deal - and there are some reserved seats you can buy - but many people just take their blankets, and/or folding chairs and find a place along the route. Hey - some even camp out overnight, but if you got there early in the morning - you can probably find a place.
Be sure to ask more of the locals when you arrive.
People are starting to camp the morning before, like 24 hrs before the parade, and the whole route will be packed, so tickets are advised. Parking is included when you buy the tix, and the map with the assigned parking lot within walking distance will be provided.
Make sure you have enough memory in your camera!
Cannot tell more - I was with Paula1470 who knows the area, she picked the airport to pick me up and hotel.
