Room for 5 in NYC? Manhattan Club vs. Salisbury?

We are heading to NYC in 8/07 with 2 adults and 3 teenagers and are looking for a hotel for all of us. We have stayed at Doubletree Suites at TImes Square, which was great, but it looks like we can get a better rate, around $350/night including all fees at either the Salisbury (for a 1 bedroom suite) or the Manhattan Club (for a studio). Would anyone recommend one of these places over the other? Any other suggestions for about $350/night?

I have friends who just returned from a NYC trip and stayed at the Salisbury. They also had five people in a room and loved the hotel. They said it's not fancy but thought the location (right by Carnegie Hall) was perfect. They were very pleased with their choice. Wish I could shed some light on the Manhattan Club!

I don't think a group of 5 people will be comfortable in anything that could be described as a studio. I'm saying this, however with no direct knowledge of how big the Manhattan Club rooms are. Both locations are good, so I'd recommend the larger suite if the prices are comparable.

We stayed at the Manhattan Club last March. A family of four. The suite has one bedroom, and a fold out couch in the living room. You could squeak a foldaway in there, but it will be tight. Two full baths. Euro kitchen was very efficient. We liked the place a lot and would go back.

I think the studio would be too small.

I've also stayed in a one bedroom suite at Manhattan Club with two full baths and it is very nice -- I'm sure far nicer than a single "suite" at Salisbury(also with presumably only one bathroom). But what I saw as a studio at Manhattan Club was something like half the size with only one bath. You can often find Manhattan Club rentals on RedWeek -- and the one bedroom suites are usually around $350 -- sometimes even less.

Frankly, I don't see how the 5 of you will fit in either place you describe. Where do 5 people sleep in a studio?? I'd suggest you try for the 1 bedroom Patrick describes at Manhattan Club with 2 full baths. If any of the teens is female, you'll be glad to have more than 1 bathroom. You might also check the Affinia.com hotels.
