I would like to take my husband on a weekend trip and I think West Virginia would be a nice change for us. We will have to drop our dogs off at my in-law's, so a nice drive from the Harrisonburg, VA area would be ideal.
I have been looking into Berkeley Springs, but haven't found a whole lot of information about it.
We like hiking, and would love canoeing and/or white-water rafting.
I'm open to hearing any recommendations! ![]()
Thanks so much!

Have you seen this web site?

BS is a small town with a number of spas and interesting shops. Accomodations are not too great, but I've stayed at the Country Inn and enjoyed it's spa.
Two restaurants that I recommend are The Panorama and Tari's...and The Old Factory Mall is fun for unusual shopping and homemade fudge.
Berkeley Springs has several excellent B & Bs. Manor Inn, Maria's Garden, and Sleepy Creek Mountain.
Berkeley Springs is a wonderful small town with a lot of activity. Besides the Spas there is a great old theater that has been restored.
After you visit Berkeley Springs, I hope you will come see other areas of the State. Go up US Rt 33 to US Rt 220. Near Petersburg are 3 wonderful B & Bs - all with wonderful views and each is different. Breath of Heaven, Northfork Mountain, and Wildernest Inn. Or stay on US Rt 33 and go to Elkins or Buckhannon or Weston. Check www.wvbnbs.com for all the B & Bs in WV that are inspected.
"We like hiking, and would love canoeing and/or white-water rafting".
Sounds like you want the Fayetteville area of WV instead of Berkeley Springs. People come from all over the world to white-water raft there. There are "easy" rafting areas as well as the more adventurous. There is also gorgeous hiking.
I think Fayetteville is 2-3 hours from Harrisonburg, VA.
There is a lot more "talk" about WV on tripadvisor. com than on this forum. As a matter of fact, there was discussion today concerning Fayetteville. Check out the post titled "West Virginia Trip Ideas".
Also type in "fayetteville" in the search section of the WV Forum.
You might also check out Shepherdstown - the visitors center website is www.shepherdstownvisitorscenter.com. It is clunky but functional. The C&O canal path on the Maryland side of the Potomac, which Shepherdstown is on, and rafting and kayaking are available through outfitters in Harpers Ferry, only 10 miles away. Downtown Shepherdstown has several great restaurants and shops and an independent movie theater.
If you go to Shepherdstown, the Thomas Shepherd Inn is the best place in town to stay. The B & B is walking distance to everything you could want to see or do. Great place for a week or a weekend.
I have heard wonderful things about the Thomas Shepherd Inn!
