Romantic Weekend--where?
Getting a break from the kids, and need some ideas for a long weekend, either in Michigan, or within 5 hours drive. Have done Mackinaw Island and Chicago. Just want a fun place to go, either relaxing or exciting! Any suggestions?

Have you thought about Door County, Wisconsin? Don't know just which part of Michigan you live in, so it may or may not be within a 5-hr. drive of where you live. It's a beautiful and popular spot, so I would suggest making reservations as far in advance as possible.

Hi there,
Like Sally T. asked, I don't know what area you live in so I don't know what a 5 hour drive would be for you.
I would suggest the Holland area of Michigan. It is beautiful. If you are inclined to go to the UP (of Michagan). I would suggest the Soo and Tequemenon (spelling?) Falls. How about Traverse City? Lots of sailing/boating and quaint shops.
We have stayed in the Grand Lake area of wester Michigan and the Alpena area. Both areas are great for relaxation.
Please feel free to email me with any specific questions.

Can't imagine a nicer break than a long weekend at a B&B in one ofMichigan's Lake Michigan towns. My personal favorite area is the Leelanau Peninsula. A good site is laketolake.com, which lists the B&B's by town. Other nice towns are Charlevoix, Harbor Springs, Ludington and Pentwater.

Agree with Marilyn - check out laketolake.com. A great and relaxing long weekend that we really enjoy is a trip to the Little Inn of Bayfield - just north of Grand Bend, Ontario. About 1.5 hours from Port Huron. Their website is www.littleinn.com. They have theme weekends throughout the off season. Given that $1.00 US - $1.50 CA, it's a great deal. It's an old 1850-ish stagecoach inn, with wonderful antique-filled (but not "musty") Jacuzzi rooms, a four-star restaurant, pub complete with dart board, great reading/meeting room, and many quaint shops/galleries on the lane. Also fairly close to Stratford, if that appeals to you. VERY romantic, quiet, relaxing.

As noted, your lack of a pinpoint location makes it hard to know what "5 hours" is...Is hopping the border into Canada feasible? Toronto is sposed to be a happenin' town (and the focus of the current Fodor's guided topic, I believe). Another possibility is Copper Harbor in the UP...have bever been there, but it is THE dream getaway spot for a dear friend. Lots of peace, tranquility and Lake Superior views...There's even a sort of silo-top B&B, with windows all around, giving onto lake views. (There's a CH website...)
