Romantic things to do around Lake Erie area
Hello! My husband and I will be taking a short 2 day trip to Lake Erie to celebrate our 3rd Anniversary (and first time away from baby!!) I've booked a bed and breakfast, but I'm looking for things to do in the area. I'm thinking we'll go to Put-in-Bay one day (any suggestions of specific things to do there?) But what should we do the next day?
Thanks!
Cindy

We liked roller blading on the Presque trails. It was a nice relaxing trip. There is another island that I've heard is less commercial than South Bass Kelly maybe. I didn't care for this island in the picture http://www.putinbay.com/ but I'm not a drinker. Many people enjoying drinks there and not that many cool shops or anything.

Kelley's Island is a bit less party-party-party than Put in Bay. You can rent golf carts, check out the nice beach by the state park, see the glacial grooves, ride bikes. Nice ferry ride from Marblehead.
Don't know if you consider an amusement park romantic but Cedar Point is right there...16 roller coasters and a lot of other cool stuff.

We have done day trips over to Put in Bay. We take the ferry from Catawba and then take the bus into town--I think it is $1.00
We walk around town and the marina--fabulous boats docked at the marina. We often get perch at the food court on the water--I'm sure it has a name. As you look toward the water, it is to the left. We eat out on the deck that extends over the water.
After walking around the town, we rent bikes--or you can get a golf cart---these are also available when you get off the ferry, but you save money by not having them parked while you do the town. We rent them for a couple hours and ride around the island. You can go to Perry's Monument, the state park, the cave(we've never done the cave)ride around the little streets. It's quite enjoyable.
Then we head back into town and check out the entertainment in town. The Put-in-Bay website lists the scheduled entertainment. There is a lot of drinking on the island---I think they refer to it as a drinking island with a boating problem. We always see lots of bachelor and bachelorette parties. We are not big drinkers but we still enjoy our time watching all the "entertainment".
Back at Catawba, we also enjoy dinner at the Mon Ami Winery--they have a fabulous Happy Hour with great appetizers and desserts.
Marblehead is also a nice area to visit. We stop at the lighthouse and eat at a marina right on the water.
Port Clinton is the big town in the area(other than Sandusky) We haven't gotten over to the town in quite awhile. Did have a good meal at the Island House.

Whereabouts are you staying? What kind of activity are you looking for? Do you like more laid-back stuff or are you pretty active? There's a great restaurant in Vermilion that you should try for your anniversary, but it's pricey .. Chez Francois. Depending on where you're staying, you may be fairly close to it.
Put-In-Bay is ok ... if you like to party, especially, you'll have a good time. You can rent little scooters there, or go fishing, or get the golf cart and check out the island. There are a lot of nice little shops, but there's an emphasis on drinking. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
Lakeside is a little town that some compare to Chataqua ... that might be nice for a visit. I've never been there, but I've heard good things about it. If you like amusement parks, by all means head to Cedar Point!!
But tell us what kind of things you like and we can better give you some ideas. Happy anniversary!
