Try the Ritz-Carlton Hotel on the Country Club Plaza. It is a beautiful hotel with a lot of history and right across from the one of the premier shopping area's in the country. Be sure to ask for a room overlooking the Plaza (and confirm it.) There is a kind of "river-walk" there that is actually a creek but, is fairly scenic at night. My favorite restraunts - Plaza III, $20-45, fantastic prime rib & lobster, JJ's, $18-35, trendy menu, mostly seafood, unreal wine cellar! Both are within walking distance. Have fun, e-mail if you have any other Q's.
Ditto on Ritz. Dinner at top is great, especially between Thanksgiving and 1/15 when Plaza is all decked out for the holidays. Also lounge at top will play your favorite music (ask for Rachel). Also try out Ruth's Chris Steak House on the Plaza (about 4-5 blocks easy walk). Service is super and if there is a special occasion, tell them and they will treat you to special dessert. Split potato (try garlic mashed) and salad because of large portions. Also like Plaza III and Parkway 600. Stay away from Juels (sp?) because it tries to be something it isn't.
Take a walk around the Plaza and enjoy all the fountains and artistic touches that are everywhere. Top your evening off with some cheesecake at the Cheesecake Factory.
Last of all, enjoy! KC is a great city.
