Rockport-like?

I recently posted a question about accommodations for this summer in Boston. After more consideration, I think I have changed gears to renting a house somewhere within an hour of Boston. We have stayed in Rockport and Bar Harbor and loved both. We could go back to Rockport, but I would like to change things up a bit. Would love to go to Newport, RI, but the rentals are few and far between and quite expensive. My forum friends haven't let me down yet with many vacation plans, so any ideas of quaint seaside towns with a little bit for 4 teenagers/tweens to do would be so appreciated!
We will doing day trips to Harvard and Brown, but don't mind a little drive time.

Marion, Mattapoisett, Padanaram, Westport Point are all very pleasant to super-charming places in Massachusetts that are on the water and within an hour (not at rush hour!) from Boston. Fairhaven shares much of this charm, but location matters more. They are all within easy reach of New Bedford, Newport and Cape Cod. Watch Hill, RI and Stonington, Mystic and Essex in Connecticut are easy day trips.

They are not as touristy as Rockport, but if you want miniature golf and outlet malls, Wareham has got 'em!

When we were looking for property, Westport Point was more expensive than Nantucket simply because you can commute to Boston.

There are some lovely seacoast towns in RI - Tiverton comes to mind but there are more. In the summer many have shops, little restaurants that might appeal to teens - but not great excitement. But neither does Lockport, so if they liked that, try RI.

Woods Hole, MA? You could do a day trip to the vineyard, rent bikes and explore. The one hour from Boston limit is problematic for options.
