Loni--do you have your schedule from Mayo Clinic yet? That will give you a better idea of how much "free" time you really have. Some days can be totally filled up and some just one appt.

When you know your schedule you can figure out how far away you can venture each day.

Let us know then we can help you plan.

SiestaLinda,

Hi there, I'm headed back to Mayo this weekend and will have my father with me. I will be the one at Mayo's thus giving him plenty of free time to travel around...any suggestions as to day trips in the area, say +- 50 miles. Thanks. By the way if you ever need Wyoming advice, just let me know [email protected] Thanks again.

Red Wing on the Mississippi River is a neat town to visit. There is the Red Wing Pottery place there.

Faribault has the Faribault Woolen Mills.

Owatonna on I-35 has a Cabelas which is fun to see if you haven't been to a Cabelas and a Russell Stover Candy Outlet.

Mall of America is about one hour and 18 minutes from Rochester.

You could go to Lake City, which is 45 minutes away and a lovely area of the Mississippi River. I live here and most people who want lots to do head to Minneapolis/St. Paul, where there is tons to do. Rochester itself has a vibrant downtown, shops and restaurants. You could visit the old Mayowood Mansion. We have several live theaters. We are not a usual travel destination, per se, but once you get here your hotel and Mayo can direct you to some activites.
