I have been thinking of this trip for sometime and i want to make it a reality this summer.
I have a very good 4X4 and enjoy driving. The total trip may be any where close to 20,000 Km and may take 5 to 6 weeks. I want to avoid hotels & motels.
I am looking for 2 or 3 like minded explorers and like to share the expenses. You do not have to worry about the vehicle and maintenance.
Please let me know if you can take up the once in a life time adventure.
cheers
VK

Are you a serial killer?
That's not funny, I am a Canadian citizen with cleanest driving record and law abiding citizen.
Try the Lonely Planet Forums for like-minded people. There are two other sites that I know that focus on "expeditionary" travel, though there are doubtless many more.
The focus in http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/hubb/ is on motorcycle travel but there appear to be linkup sections of the forum.
I generally look at http://www.expeditionportal.com/forum/ for information on expedition vehicles, but the site is much broader.
For a brilliant novel of the part of the world you are going to, try "Sick Heart Rier" (US title "Mountain Meadow") by John Buchan, who was Governor General of Canada at the beginning of WWII.
thanks a lot, i will
i encourage you to thnk about writing about this trip. i woud think that this is a fantasy of many people.
thanks, sure i will
Hi
We are also planning a drive to Fairbanks from Toronto at the end of August - 2 of us and 2 puppy dogs. We specifically are heading out there to see the Northern Lights. Just wondering whether you have planned out your driving route yet and if you have purchased a Milepost.
Hope you have found someone to do the trip with. We are just in the planning stages now.
Thanks
Dody
Considering the gas prices in Canada, I would consider crossing into the US in Sarnia and driving across the northern tier of the US to Ellensburg Washington and then north on US 97 into Kelona BC.
Canadians cross the border to fill up in the US rather than pay over $1.40/litre.
Hi VK, Sounds like quite the trip!
I guess if you don't find anyone, the last resort would be to post to Craigslist for point to point trips, I'm sure many people would be looking to travel large distances and Hitching from AK south is a notoriously slow trip.
-Cheers!
Hey VK, how are u?
I am from Brazil and I am plaining a month trip from Canada (Toronto) to Alaska (and then travel around Alaska...camping, walking...close to nature).
So, let me know about your plans, ok?! I would like to go in the end of June and comeback to Brazil in August.
Cheers!
*ops: planning! =)
