I am driving down to Charlotte, NC with my two kids (7 years old and 2 years old) to visit family from NYC. I need to break up the ride so that they do not go crazy sitting in a car for 11 hours. Besides eating, are there are any attractions that would interest kids along that route? Thanks in advance for any help.

will you spend the night along the way?
in virginia, you'll be driving along the shenandoah mts. lots of places to get out and walk/hike.
if you drive through pa, you'll be near hershey and amish country. if you take the nj route there is a nice, easy to find children's museum in wilmington de.
what route are you planning on?
We have fond memories of both Hershey and the Amish Country. Not sure Hershey Park will be open yet, other than weekends, but possible. Only thing is that might not break up the trip late enough, but it is a great stop!!

If I remember right,it depends on Route you are taking. If you do I81 to I 78, that's one whole other area verses I95. So please tell me your driving route and we all will be better able to direct you. Me personally, although I81 will take you a wee bit longer, it will cheaper and less congested than 95. We've done the drive 3 times already for the same reason and doing it again in July!
I would definitely do the 78 to 81 route. We were amazed at how easy it was, and the 11 hours is about right on it. I would give them a DVD player and just up and do it. Other than Hershey, I'm not sure there is a whole lot--but it is better than traffic jams!!
Thanks so much for the replies. We will be traveling the 78 to 81 route, but I am open to suggestions. I thought about stopping over in Lancaster, PA but I was trying to do more of a half way point. Also, my kids have already done the Hershey Park/Amish experience already so not sure if I want to repeat that right now. I appreciate all of your help.
How about Luray Caverns? It's only about 15 minutes off of I-81 in Virginia and it's a nice way to let everyone stretch their legs. Plus if you're traveling during the hot summer it's blessedly cool in the caverns.

Thanks Sharona. That looks like a fantastic stop!
