Road trip from Asheville to western United States!
Hey, Fellow Travelers!
My husband and I are hoping to take a quick 2 (possibly 3) week road trip from Asheville, NC to the Western part of our country. We are looking to mostly tent camp (we have an attatchement for our LR3) and maybe an air bnb, but we would like to take our dog so mostly camping would be nice.
We are newbies and every way so please help! Not sure if it's even possible with our budget and time restrictions.
Budget3,000
Must see:
Yosemite
Zion
Grand Canyon
Tahoe would be great too
Please help!

`The dog is a huge hassle in all of the National Parks.
Board the dog near home. See if you can get the $80 National Parks Pass before you leave home.
You might do better time wise to fly to SLC and just rent a car and stay in a B&B or two and some cheaper lodgings.
The lack of a shower gets old pretty quick when camping IMO.
It looks like we will be in for a long hot summer out here in the west. The last day of spring, it tied the all time record for Las Vegas (117*).

Thanks for the info! We aren't looking to take the trip until early fall. Good point about the dog. While we hate to leave her it may be better just to have her stay. We really aren't looking to fly though. We enjoy the drive and want to see things on the way.

OK, driving. Night 1 Memphis TN - Night 2 Clinton OK (get through OKC before stopping)- Night 3 Albuquerque NM.
It is still 6 hours drive from ABQ to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.
In Clinton and in Albuquerque you can see and drive on a stretch of Rt. 66 "The Mother Road".
Central Avenue in Albuquerque was the old US 66.

For a start get a map and stick those pins in it. Then go to google and see how far between these places it is and plan the days (Memphis is not far enough for first night IMO --may need to put in some long days to get TO the west).
Get a campground directory for places outside the parks. There are also inexpensive motel chains.
Estimate your arrival at the parks and start checking for reservations.
