River Lodge Bed & Breakfast -- Cullowhee NC?

Any recent comments on the River Lodge Bed & Breakfast in Cullowhee, N.C.? The most recent Trip Advisor review is a year old.

We are considering this for anniversary trip at the end of this month.

We just stayed in that area (in Sylva) this past week. There is nothing in Cullowhee, save Western Carolina. I might look in Sylva or Dillsboro, just to be closer to things.

We just booked River Lodge for our anniversary. I looked at several B&B types in the area and this is the one that suited us the best. Except there is no Internet. aaaaaaaaaaah My hubby will be thrilled.

You have to go off property for lunch and dinner, and the place is out of the way. But we tend to get out and drive the back roads so that shouldn't be a problem.

I'll post a review afterwards.

I wanted to follow up on our anniversary trip. We stayed at the River Lodge Bed & Breakfast south of Cullowhee NC and LOVED it. I've written a TripAdvisor review that's still pending; there will be photos posted there.

The breakfasts are amazing, the grounds are beautiful and serene, and the lodge itself is great, having been crafted of antique logs rescued from old barns/homes/etc in the area. The Innkeepers are very friendly and good at what they do.

Our room was nice, decorated very well in a fishing theme and immaculately clean. The mattresses could have been a little more plush, but I slept well each evening so I really have nothing to complain about.

Although it's just across the river from the main road, the Lodge is remote -- at least ten minutes from the nearest food, which is a Huddle House at Western Carolina Univ. Sylva has many more food options including all your favorite or not favorite fast food chains. But most of the small establishments seem to be closed on Sundays, which presents a problem for a tourist visiting over the weekend! We had no television, no internet connection, and my AT&T cell phone had no signal (hubby's Alltel had one bar most of the time). So this place is perfect if you're trying to get away.

The Lodge is high on a hill overlooking the river. The property goes down to the riverbank, where there are chairs and a picnic table. It was fun to sit and talk and see people drifting down the river in their innertubes or canoes.

We would definitely go back, we really enjoyed the place.

That looks like a lovely place. I graduated college at Western. Who would have known something so quaint was there. We were more interested in the fraternity houses. ; )
Thanks for making us aware of it.

Thanks for the report. My son is seriously looking at Western Carolina - if he goes, it sounds like a nice place to stay.
