Richmond highlights?
Spending weekend in Richmond for a wedding that will be held at Jasmine Plantation; we have time Friday afternoon before the rehearsal dinner, and time on Saturday morning before the wedding to explore Richmond. Seen the art museum and gardens, so this time want to find other highlights of the city. Staying downtown, and brunch/lunch at the Thomas Jefferson suggested. What else?? We'll have our car.

You could do a tour of the Richmond Capitol Building - designed by Thomas Jefferson & Charles-Louis Clérisseau.
http://www.richmond.com/
Here is something that would interest me:
http://vmfa.museum/
Currently has an exhibit on imperial treasures from the Beijing Palace Museum. Website says museum is free but there is admission for Palace exhibit.
http://www.vaholocaust.org/
Virginia Holocaust Museum
Check out the TA Richmond forums as there are lots of museums listed there. Also lots of restaurants you can browse.
You don't have a lot of time on either day so you could do something in a few hours. Maybe there is a hop on/off bus or trolley tour you could do.

Do not miss the Richmond Capitol building tour. it is simply amazing, perhaps more so than our nations capitol is Washington D.C.
I also enjoyed driving down Monument Avenue.
St. John's Church , where Patrick Henry gave his " Give me liberty or give me death!" speech is awesome. Still a working parish, so check the schedule for times it is open. It was humbling to be there.

I would go to The Black Sheep for breakfast on Saturday.
Brunch at The Jefferson is an experience . Be aware it is reservation required with seating times.

Richmonders love Sunday Brunch so there are many to choose from.

Janet, what is that huge park you have to walk over the river to get to? While my son was living in Richmond we would always hike through the park then across the river.
The whole Shockoe Bottom area was really cool.

Brunch at the Jefferson takes most of the morning and is well worth it!
A walk through Carytown is always fun. Lots of shops of all types and in all price categories, from funky to expensive. Really eclectic. There is a new kitchen shop in the same block as a high end lingerie shop across the street from a used record store etc.
Goodwill has a boutique where they have the high end stuff they have been given. Last week they had two black wool Italian men's suits, unworn, from Saks for $16.99 each! Why? Because they were labeled size 50 but were a European 50, which translates into a US 40. I, a 50, tried to put the jacket on and couldn't get my arms in the sleeves! A 40 wouldn't have bothered! Tell your skinny friends!

There is also a very good Farmer's Market at Forest Hill Park on Saturdays....you could do breakfast there if you want.
When SD & SIL lived here they could walk to it...always made me jealous!

Are you thinking of Brown's Island?
http://www.brownsisland.com
Or Belle's Island, part of the James River Park.

Welcome back, Akislander!
