Hey folks,
Wondering if anyone knows of a good beach town(s) in Rhode Island. Preferably something with some shopping and a bit of a nightlife. If this is asking too much, just a good beach in general will suffice. Thanks in advance.

Look at Misquamicut, near the CT border. Beautiful large beach, somewhat tacky town, but with some life. Not far from the Mystic Seaport, aquarium or casinos in CT if that interests you.
I second Misquamicut, too. There's also Narraganset, but I haven't been there. Or Block Island, but haven't been there either. Might not have much nightlife, though.
Most of the South County beaches will be kind of light on nightlife -- it's geared mostly towards families renting cottages for a week or more. As mentioned above, Misquamicut does have a few bars. Block Island has a number of bars and restaurants, as does Narragansett. I'd say your best bet would be Newport, which has plenty to do in the evening and a pretty decent beach.
