Restaurant/Deli close to Lincoln Center
Hi..I know deli in NYC is expensive, but it's better than the rest of the country. When we went to NYC years ago we definetely liked Wolf's Deli..and their pickles. Okay, so now we have tickets for Contact at Lincoln Center for 12/1 (discounted, of course) and I want to know what is "reasonable" around that area and is the Stage Deli close by or anything else you Fodorites would recommend..there are five of us. Any and all ideas are welcomed.

The Stage Deli is on 7th Avenue between West 53rd and 54th Streets...so you'll be around 12 blocks and a couple of avenues north...regular sandwiches there average $7.95 to $11.95...the special triple deckers named after celebs range from $11.95 to $16.95...a burger with fries is $10.75...right in the Lincoln Center area there's O'Neals (American) on 64th Street between Central Park West and Broadway, Sfuzzi (Italian) on 65th Street between Columbus and Central Park West, and Ruppert's (Burgers) on Columbus between 72nd and 73rd Streets...Ruppert's is probably the least expensive.

Rupert's hasn't been around for years. There's a coffee shop/deli very close to Lincoln Center called Orloff's. it's on Columbus Avenue at 65th street, diagonally across a long street from parts of Lincoln Center. Nothing brilliant, but OK for a sandwich or salad. Lots of other places (Italian,Mexican, cafes, etc) on Columbus (from 68th to 74thand higher) Also nearby is Ollie's a Chinese place a couple blocks up Broadway (68th-69th) in the front courtyard of a building. Very inexpensive (main dishes mostly under $10), and you can just have a couple appetizers if you're eating light.

Merilee: Ruperts, Sfuzzi, both closed for years. Both bring back good memories though. I first ate at Ruperts eastside, the original, way back in 1973. Exposed brick walls and huge rib roasts, in the days when I could eat rib roast (pre cholesterol).

Thank you..keep the ideas coming..several of the group will have trouble walking so we'll have to take a taxi from where the bus lets us off from near the Radio City Music I assume. Being from Boston I must say that NYC has it all over us with the restaurants, especially deli for quality. Okay, we have better and less expensive lobster which is still being advertised 2 for $14.95 locally..

TIMEWARP -- I have fond memories of the East Side Ruppert's, too. Remember that big wooden bar they used to have? I always think of myself as not "from" NY, but I guess I've been here a while.
ParrotMom -- You might try Uncle Nick's at 50th and 9th Aves. It is not exactly near Radio City or Lincoln Center, but somewhat in-between. It isn't a diner or deli, but is a Greek restaurant. They have wonderful grilled fish and lots of HUGE appetizers -- you could easily graze on a couple of those and share the swordfish kebab and be stuffed.
Lots of other cheap, ethnic eats on 9th Ave.
