Restaurant witn that extra!?

Dear all! me and my family are flying in from Stockholm and PHX for a family reunion in NYC oct 20-23. I am planning to reserve table at a restaurant each night since i know itīs usually very crowded. Any suggestions? we are thinking of Gramercy Tavern and Aquavavit but need more recomandations. is there any place for example with an extraordinary view?
Thanx for your help/Jacob Stockholm Sweden

The River Cafe is in Brooklyn (on the ground) and has an incredible view of the Manhattan skyline across the river. The food is very good (but not the best in NYC - but to me the view akes it worthwhile.

Asiate high on the Madarin Oriental Hotel has truly excellent food and a great view - but is big $$$.

Checkout menupages.com for actual menus and diner reviews.

You migh also try chowhound.com.

Also - you need to do this quickly - since some places open reservations a month before the dining date and are filled in a couple of hours.

I think since Aquavit moved to it's new location it has not been as good as it was. I also wonder why you'd go there vs. having some other ethnic food that you can't get at home? Reviews for Aquavit and a good website for searching other restaurants

I think Gramercy Tavern is a good idea. I agree River Cafe has a great view and good food but not the very best food available in NYC. You might also consider a dinner cruise on Bateaux NY.

Budget and food likes would affect other choices.

But we still have two more nights where we would like to find a really extraordinay place. maybe asian mexican cajun .. or something else budget? maybe around 40-50USD/person for a three course meal (will that be enough?) pls give me som more advice

nytraveler mentioned Asiate in the Mandarin Oriental hotel on the 35 floor of the Time Warner building. Views and Asian. (You could also go to the MO for a drink or tea in their lobby lounge and get the same view).

Spice Market (in meatpacking district)

opentable.com is a good booking service. Perhaps have a look at what they show available on your dates. Cross reference with reviews on menupages.com

Asiate is a great choice,Asian fare and the view from Time Warner is great. If you likr Jazz check out Dizzy's next door after dinner.I also like the river cafe.If the rainbow room is open and you like to dance,I would rec it,Yes to all who say it is touristy and the food is ok-good but I loved the experience and the view.If you go remember that you do not have to wait on line with the other people going to the cafe.

You might want to go to Aquavit for Sunday Brunch. It was always very special, but admittedly I haven't been to the new one yet.

For fine dining, once again I'll suggest LeBernardin, a wonderful dining experience in every way. It is a set price closer to $100 for dinner, but multi courses. It would definitely be the "splurge dinner" but still less than many top notch places.
