My daughter is graduating from high school next month and we'd like to go out for a nice meal after the ceremony. The graduation is at Masonic Temple and we expect to be done around 2:00. We'll be dressed up, in fact my son will be in a tux due to performing in the symphony band. We're looking for something either in the downtown area or back near our home in Troy. We eat out a lot, but mostly casual chain places. For this occasion we'd like something a little fancier. Thanks for your suggestions!

How about Sweet Georgia Brown's? It is in the Greektown area. I work in the Renaissance Center and a group of us went there for lunch recently. It was fantastic! It is a very nice restaurant, so being dressed up is a plus. The food is fabulous. I promise you, you will not be disappointed. Have the peach cobbler - to die for!

My choice in Troy is Ruth's Chris Steakhouse on Big Beaver Rd. next to I-75. Steaks start around $30.00 and everything else is ala carte but you won't be sorry once you taste that "melts in your mouth" steak. The decor has a kind of a clubhouse feel to it. Very nice place for a celebration.
I agree that Ruth's Chris Steakhouse is a great choice if you decide to have the graduation celebration in Troy. Everything is delicious.
Another restaurant that we really like is The Hill in Grosse Pointe. Excellent food and atmosphere.
One more idea - BooCoo in Clawson (14 Mile Road and Crooks). Very nice. Hour Magazine's 2004 Restaurant of the Year.

Out near you in Troy is Picanos on Rochester Rd. It is a wonderful Italian restaurant, not too expensive but with excellent food. It is always filled with families having celebrations. They will work with you to have lovely platters of antipasto and fresh fruit just like you would at a celebration in Italy.
Downtown Detroit just doesn't have much in the way of good restaurants. The casinos certainly haven't raised the bar there but there are some fun places.
I think the Rattlesnake Club would be a great place. It's on the river and the food is great.
The Whitney is lovely but the New American food might not be right for someone usually going to the usual casual chain restaurants.
I think Il Posto is the finest restaurant in the Detroit area, more traditional than Tribute and less of a contrived affair than the Lark. It is off the path for you at the corner of Northwestern Hwy and Franklin but it is fantastic and very expensive. LMF
