About a year or so ago, someone mentioned taking the subway to a certain stop in Queens. They said when you come up from the subway you will be surrounded with tons of restaurants, many ethnic ones. I copied that down last trip and didn't make it, now can't find it with a search. Sounds like a fun evening. Specifics??

I'm thinking Flushing? But that's almost 100% Korean. Does that interest you? If so, you can take the LIRR (also the subway) to Flushing, Main Street.
No, not what I'm thinking. This was supposedly a busy area, where if you came out of the subway (a rather major street, I think) you would be surrounded by restaurants -- tons of Italian, but many other nationalities as well. The suggestion was to walk around and just pick one that looked fun and good.
It may be Jackson Heights each block is basically a different country. Indian, Chinese, Korean, Italian, South American. Go to Zagat and enter Queens soemthing should come up
Ah, after a more thorough search I was able to find the original post I was talking about -- from Steve on 2/21/2001. He said:
"Come out to Queens. Take the subway (E,F,7,N, or R)to 74th Street. Head upstairs and explore. The neighborhood is great and the prices are shockingly cheap."
Does this sound right to you "natives"?
My daughter lived in Astoria for two years...31st through like 36th Street along Broadway and for blocks all around the area you will find Greek, Italian, Seafood, Indian, Cuban, for starters...
Thats Roosevelt Avenue in Main Street Flushing. Great ethnic Korean, Indian. Has some italian as well. It is where I head before the Mets Games! When the Mets actually gave me a reason to go!
JOHN
Sorry, bmw, do you mean the 74th Street I referred to is "Main Street, Flushing?" Or were you referring to one of the other posts?
Patrick, darling, this is home to that fab gyro I mentioned in another thread. Happy ethnic eating!
Well, Food Snob, I did a search of your posts and can't find the reference to the gyro. Tell me more.
I was born and raised in Queens, here's the deal:
E, F, V, 7 trains 74th Street & Roosevelt in Jackson Heights is great for Indian and Spanish.
7 train to Main Street Flushing (Roosevelt Ave also comes down here), is good for Chinese and Korean.
Astoria is good for Greek and increasingly Egyptian.
Patrick, allan_b just did you a huge favor. He deserves a big kiss.
If you want to take a bus from the 7 train http://www.cookingwithjazz.com/ has some of the highest rates Cajun food in NYC.
