Resort for family reunion
My family is planning a reunion next July. We are looking for a resort in the US or Canada that will satisfy ages 9 months through 85. Mostly we are adults with toddlers, no teens.
We have one dedicated golfer, many swimmers and tennis players. Others like to tour.
I was thinking of La Costa in California, but Trip Advisor was very discouraging

I'm not sure what part of the country you'd be coming from, but you might consider Big Cedar Lodge. They have all sorts of accommodations and it has a wonderful reputation.

I was going to say Palm Springs, but then I saw the "July" (mutually exclusive, IMHO). Rules out Scottsdale and Las Vegas, too.
Are you looking for a large hotel on a golf course? Or would a self-contained community with beautiful golf courses, bike trails, pools and tennis courts, and all different types of accommodations, from hotel to condos to cabins to private homes be what you're looking for? We've stayed at Black Butte in Sisters, Oregon several times and absolutely loved it - we were three familes; at the time, the kids were in the 9-12 range, but they would have liked it even if they were older.

Be careful with Tripadvisor - some people are very picky and/or making up crap, so if there are at least 2/3 good reviews and 1/3 bad, you can pretty safely ignore the bad ones. Also, pay attention to dates - if the bad ones are very old, then maybe the property was renovated or under new management.

Currie, I completely agree that you have to pay close attention to what the reviewers actually say on TripAdvisor, but if 2/3 of reviewers are positive and 1/3 are negative, I'd be pretty careful about the place myself. (Now, 90/10 and I'd probably agree with you - LOL)

Sunriver near Bend, Oregon offers tennis, swimming pools, gol courses, and a whole lot more. There are condos and homes you can rent for verious sized groups. The weather in July is usually great.

While reading your post, my first thought was La Costa and there it was..
I wouldn't put everything what TA says as 'golden'..
La Costa is a great resort and they did a wonderful job renovating the resort.
July will be perfect for all ages..
I would also look at the Hotel Del Coronado..
In Oregon, I would do the Tu Tu Tun Lodge..stunning!

I'm just curious how you do a family reunion like this. Do you have lots of people? Does everyone pay their own way? How do you accommodate family members who can't afford it?
Having just survived a really dreadful reunion, this sort of thing sounds much more fun...

I agree with enzian...Sunriver is perfect! We do this every year, and the resort works great for us. Check out the website, but also do a search on here for past comments from myself and others.

La Costa is so so as far as a resort..they have lots of rooms... but if you could afford it I would do Hotel Del far superior to La Costa
La Costa is NOT on the beach, is way North of San Diego proper with all teh nasty traffice too, and you will have to rent/lease seveal vans to get everyone to the beach.
LA Costa is nice but you will tire of the hotels one restauarant and again will need several vans to get to other nearby nice restarants.
Hotel Del has some brand new condos On the beach called Beach Village at the Del.
We got a promotion of $1800.00 per night (act like you are interested in buying one of the 1.5 milliion condos) and we would have comfortably gotten 4 couple in one condo.
The Del has several restaurants on property and you can walk to others in teh village nearby.
Golfers might need a van tho..or arrange with concierge. If you stay at the DEL in the Beach Village, Del will cater to you..
Otherwise call Seaworld; askt to speak to their Group Tours people and they will give you some better ideas than La Costa.

I am too surprised that TripAdvisor had a bad review of the La Costa Resort.
I was there in May for a function. It was exquisite.
However the town of Coronado does have a more family friendly relaxed atmosphere and all the amenities you are interested in.
