resort for couple in June

I am having a tough time deciding where to book for a 3 night stay in WV..has anyone been to Capacon Lodge or Canaan Valley Lodge? I think they are both state run. If so which is better and why lol. I would like to be no further than 2 hours from Western Maryland (ish), swimming, fishing, horsey etc. Any ideas would be a true help. I was looking into BB near Berkely SPrings but got overwhelmed with that as well ..The Inn and Spa looked lovely but they dont do overnights on Mon-Thurs ( odd?) THANKS

We've never rented a room at Cacapon so I can't comment on their lodge. We've stayed a few time at the lodges in Canaan and nearby Blackwater Falls. All three are within WV state parks. While these resorts aren't luxurious, I think they are great bargains. The settings within the parks are wonderful. (Blackwater SP is especially beautiful.) Canaan and Blackwater both have an indoor swimming pool and a restaurant. Canaan has a snack shop, too.

Another place you could consider is Rocky Gap State Park near Cumberland, Maryland. Their hotel is a bit more upscale than the WV lodge. The hotel is next to a lake where you can swim and fish. Horseback riding is available nearby.

Nemacolin Woodlands Resort in Pennsylvania is also close to you. It has all the things you wanted, but it's expensive.

Cacapon upgraded the facilities in the last few years. Stayed there prior and enjoyed it. There are several excellent B & Bs in Berkeley Springs - stay at a B & B and visit the spa! Manor Inn, Maria's Garden, and Sleepy Creek Mountain Inn are all members of the State Association so they are inspected every 3 years to ensure quality.

Canaan Valley is in a different area - mountains. It is beautiful and also has the amenities. Bright Morning Inn in Davis was a member until recently and is a very niice place.

Yes, I am a B & B person. They are located all over the State with many in the Eastern Gateway and the Potomac Highlands - the 2 regions you mentioned. You can order a Directory from the web site of the MountainState Association of Bed & Breakafsts.

I have stayed in the lodge and cabins many times. We will be at the cabins for one week this summer. The rooms are plain but very nice. There is a TV in the room and it is very clean. We love it there!!!
