RESORT FEES
I would like to start a letter writing and email campaign to eliminate Resort fees. It is the same as buying a car and then being told the engine is extra. It is a penny ante way to stick the customer for a few bucks. When I pay $3-400 per night I don't expect to be nickeled and dimed to death. I just wrote the CEO of Global Hyatt about this. They were going to charge me $350/night for a room, which is fine but then they were going to add a $15/day resort fee and $10/day internet fee. If they had simply charged me $375 for the room I probably would have taken it but I did not book there on principle. Anybody else feel this way?

I don't mind resort fees as long as I don't have to take them.
For example, say the resort fee includes daily paper, use of the gym, internet, towels at the pool, "free" guest parking, things like that. Well, give me the chance of turning it down and saving the money, especially if I don't have a car!
Now if the fee includes things that are just part and parcel of the resort and I have no choice, then yes, just build it into the total price so I know RIGHT AWAY what my costs are going to be, rather then having to question them about any of these hidden fees. Very irritating.

I agree with the OP, because you could say that you don't have to take/use anything....I don't use a hair dryer, charge separately, I don't use the desk, charge separately, I don't sit in the chair, charge separately, I don't drink coffee, charge separately. The price should just include everything (I recognize that the big-ticket items will always be charged separately - parking, spa, tennis, golf --- it's the little things that gall me).

Congratulations for taking a stand. Resort fees are ridiculous and you're right if you're paying that much why are you paying to park or to use a fitness center? There are some more civilized places out there that don't charge for that nonsense.
