"Resort" between Detroit and DC?
I'm desperately seeking a nice town where two couples can meet up half way between Washington DC and Detroit in October. Pittsburgh is the midpoint, but we're looking for something more rustic, preferably with fishing, golf and good leaf color nearby. Ideally a two bedroom cabin on a lake with fireplace and hottub, but at this point I'll look at anything! Thanks.

We recently had a very relaxing weeked at the Clarion River Lodge in Cooksburg near Cook Forest (north of Brookville on Route 80). We stayed in their standard rooms -- somewhat motel like but comfortable. Their more expensive rooms/suites have a high overlook over the river and trees. (They have a website). I think you can fish in the area, but I don't know about golf. The meandering Clarion River is lovely and Cook Forest has some nice walking trails. We noticed rental houses and cabins as we drove along the Clarion river, but I don't know how you go about renting them. Other places near Pittsburgh are Hidden Valley (another ski resort near Somerset) and Nemacolin Woodlands, a fancy resort in Farmington, (I haven't been, but a recent poster really enjoyed it). Have you also considered West Virginia -- the Blackwater Falls area for example?

Another thought -- Oglebay Resort in Wheeling, West Virginia. They have cottages with fireplaces and golf -- don't know about fishing. Their website is www.oglebay-resort.com.

Nemacolin Woodlands is Fantastic!!! It is located about an hour from Pittsburgh, but will be on your way from DC. They have an incredible spa, and 36 holes of golf.....I would highly recommend it, although it is pricey. They have individual cabin / townhome type accomodations and a gorgeous 'chateau' that opened 2 years ago. I believe they have a website.....definitely look into it.
