Rental car in Waikiki for one day?
We will be in Honolulu for 24 hours in late October and would like to see a few sights, particularly Pearl Harbor. Is it necessary to have a rental car or is public transportation good enough to get us around? Is it pretty cheap or will I pay more for bus fare and taxis for 4 people than the cost of a car? Thanks for any suggestions!

Barb,
You'll find the bus much cheaper and they are regular and reliable. We hired a car for 2 days, thinking we had a cheap deal but the insurance and extras doubled the cost. We drove around the island one day which was great. You can do this on the bus but not sure about getting on and off.
A tip for Pearl Harbour, if you drive try and get there as early as possible. We arrived about 8am and had to wait nearly 2 hours for the next available tour. It gets very busy but is definitely worth the visit.

Cars are cheap in Hawaii. the Bus is $1 per person per trip. (soon to be $1.50)If four of you take 3 round trips, you could almost have rented the car. The bus is good and reasonably scheduled, but if you only have 24 hours it will eat up your time.
