Please help us decide, either the Rennaisance or Outrigger in Wailea?Which one is nicer and has the best location? Is there a big difference in the pools? We are traveling with our ten year old daughter. The last thing we want is a old tired looking room with no ambiance.Anyone seen either of these resorts or even better, seen both? Thanks for any help you can give.L

Having stayed at the Rennaissance on 2 separate occasions, it is far superior hotel to the Outrigger.
Have been to Wailea 2x. The Rennaisance FAR outrands the Outrigger. The Outrigger was remodeling when I was there in Mar. 2000, however, the Rennaisance is just classier. We stayed at the Four Seasons both times--company trips, not our choosing. It's beautiful but I wouldn't pay my own $$$ compared to other places, including the Rennaisance. It will be the trip of a lifetime!
laura, we stayed ar the Reaaaissance for 3ni. in January and enjoyed our stay very much. The strengths of this hotel are that the employees are very friendly and go out of their way to please, the foliage/horticulture/gardens are incredible w/bridges and waterfalls, there is one of the best snorkeling beaches right in front of the hotel, the lobby area is gorgeous and has a talented guitar/vocalist singing hawaiian and easy listening music as well as hula dancers. Finally, the restaurant has great buffet dinners at an affordable price for Hawaii, and the Maui Onion at poolside has great burgers and onion rings as well as tastey lava flows and tropical drinks. The only negatives were that I thought that the carpets in some of the rooms could use shampooing, for a fussy person it may not be up to their standards of cleanliness. The other is that with a 10 yr. old daughter she may enjoy staying more at the Kea Lani where they have a large pool w/water slide. Either way I'm sure you will have a great time where ever you stay! Feel free to email me if any questions!
