Hi! I'm planning my first trip to New Orleans and found what I think is a great rate at this hotel (AAA rate of $79/night). Has anyone stayed here? The website says it's 6 blocks from the French Quarter. Would this be a scary walk at night? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks! DU

For $79, splurge for $5 and take a cab back to the hotel! It's a nice place. Relatively new with a decent restaurant. If rates are that low, it means a convention isn't in town so that area of town will be a little quieter than normal. Nothing to worry about, though. Still quite safe.
Stayed at the Renaissance Arts Hotel Sept. 2003. It had just opened. We really enjoyed staying there and it wasn't a long walk to the FQ, and we never felt unsafe even at night.
Thanks for the info! I went ahead and booked the hotel. I'll let you know how it goes...thanks again! DU
