Red Roof Inn Manhattan

Has anyone stayed at the Red Roof Inn Manhattan? I'm looking for a budget priced hotel near Macy's and Empire State Building for this fall for 4 nights. Can anyone give me their review of this hotel? We're also looking at the Howard Johnson's Penn Station. Thanks.

If you do a search on Red Roof Inn on this site, you'll find some recent discussion of the hotel.

Also, I've found that www.newyork.citysearch.com has helpful reviews of Manhattan hotels. The Red Roof Inn is given very good recommendations there.

We were their in Feb.2000. This hotel reminded more of a upscale three star Hotel not a Red Roof. The continental Breakfasts offer a variety of cereals, yogurt, bagels, and pastries. The rooms are clean and great size for families. I liked the location near the subway and you could even walk to Times Square although it was a good thirty minute walk. I can 100% recommend the accomodations.
