Recommendations for accommodation in San Diego?
My boyfriend and I are planning a trip to San Diego and our budget is pretty tight. Ideally we will be there for 3 nights and looking for suggestions for $100 & under per night. I've looked around on multiple websites but I'd really like opinions from you guys---price, safety, and cleanliness are the three priorities. If we can be close to a nightlife area that would also be great.
Also, any suggestions or favorite places in San Diego are greatly welcomed. Thanks!
(If this helps any, we are trying to go in later this fall, but if it gets pushed back it would be in early winter, but I've heard it's beautiful year round so that shouldn't matter).

Many posts in here but if you want to stay near downtown - might cost more than that.
Will you have a car? No problemo then - as one option is to stay around Hotel Circle (plenty of two star/inexpensive places - clean) and drive the short distances to downtown, Pacific Beach/Mission Beach/Ocean beach.

that's a pretty small budget for san diego. motel circle has some inexpensive places but there is no nightlife. short drive up to hillcrest, downtown or pacific beach. check out little italy and see if you can find something. there is a hostel the gaslamp area which gets good reviews. they might have private rooms within your budget. there is also the dolphin motel which isn't too far from pacific beach or la jolla.

La Pensione is a good suggestion and the rates should be lower after the summer. It doesn't have a pool, though, if that's important to you.
Little Italy is a good location. Best Western Plus Bayside & Doubletree on Front St.
This is a small hostel in LI and they have a Deluxe Private Room. Read reviews and ask if they'll send you photos of the room.
