Trip Report Quick Trip to Austin this week

My son and I went to Austin Tuesday and got back from the area tonight. We spent two nights at the Holiday Inn Town Lake. I like staying there (I get my Priority Club points) because it is right on the hike and bike trail on the lake. The last night we spent at the Holiday Inn Express In Round Rock.

My parents happened to be in Austin the first two days we were there so we met them for dinner both nights. They are in their late 70's so they tend to not drive around much when they are there. The first night we ate at Patsy's Cafe (http://patsyscafe.com/) on Ben White Blvd. I was pleasantly surprised with our meals and with the singer- David Longoria. The second day we ate at Kerbey Lane for lunch (http://www.kerbeylanecafe.com/) and then at night we ate at Matt's El Rancho (http://www.mattselrancho.com/) on South Lamar. The food was plentiful and good at both places! I almost forgot, after driving my parents around to show them some sights, we stopped at Hey Cupcake! on South Congress. The last day my son and I ate at the Pita Pit on Congress. My daughter told us about this place when she was going to school in Georgetown. I had a gyro and my son had a Buffalo wrap. Both were not bad for a fast food chain.

We went to two museums while there- the LBJ Libray and Museum (http://www.lbjlibrary.org/museum/) and the French Legation Museum (http://www.frenchlegationmuseum.org/). The first night I walked the hike and bike path on the north side of the lake close to our hotel. I stopped at a pier close to the Congress Ave bridge and got a great view of the bats coming out. We could also see the bats from our hotel room. They started that night around 8:20, but continued flying out until close to 9. Besides that my son took his bike to Austin and spent a lot of his free time riding. I relaxed in our hotel pool while he rode his bike.

Our last night in Round Rock we went to see the Round Rock Express. The game ended in 10 innings with the Express winning so we really enjoyed that! Even though it was hot in the Austin area we enjoyed being outside. There was a breeze at different times of the day and night and the humidity is so much lower than in Houston so we could enjoy our time outdoors!

Today on the way home I stopped at the outlet mall for some school clothes (I am a teacher). Then we stopped at the Texan Cafe in Hutto. Yummy!! I highly recommend going there and mostly for their delicious pies! Then we stopped in La Grange at Weikels. I was surprised to see they had rebuilt the store (in February). This store is always our pit stop on the way home from the hill country(Hruska's on the way to Austin). They sell delicious kolaches, cinnamon rolls (huge), rice krispie treats, cookies, cakes, and pies.

We are back home. I had hoped we would get some more rain from TS Don. There were some showers yesterday and this morning while we were gone though. At least I won't have to water for a couple of days!
