THANKS for the advice I received last week when I asked about stuff to do within striking distance of Cincinnati. I flew out to meet my daughter while she was in a training class and really had a great time even tho the trip was largely unplanned.
We ate one night at Newport on the Levee, it was balmy enough to eat ouside at dusk while the Cincinnati skyline lit up. On the spur of the moment we went to the P&G Theater for the opening night of a touring company of Spamalot.
We ate a White Castle for the first time ever, LOL. We each ordered one burger and realized why the guy was looking at us so funny as the burgers were miniscule, I guess people order trays-full!
We visited Dayton where we lived in the early 80's. Our old neighborhood (Oakwood) is Norman Rockwell-ish and absolutely charming. The trees were changing colors, the town goes all out with fall/Halloween decs. We strolled past all the lovely homes, I really enjoyed being there, it almsot looks like a movie set of Americana.
Most astounding about Dayton was the brand new new outdoor mega-mall near I-675. It was very Disney-esque (like Victoria Gardens or The Grove in CA). The Cheesecake Factory looked like a cathedral inside.
I visited the hamlet of Rabbit Hash, KY and made the obligatory stop atthe irresistible Big Bone Lick State Park to get postcards (because nobody believed that was the actual name!)
Georgetown, KY was such a delight. The horse farms around Lexington were idyllic, such beautiful country. I enjoyed driving miles and miles down highway 25 looking at the tiny towns.
I had a great time on this quick trip. Would love to further explore southern Ohio and Kentucky. Thanks for the tips.

Thanks for the trip report. Glad you enjoyed your time here. Never would have thought about sending you to Rabbit Hash!
We went to Spamalot also -- loved it! Next time you have to try Graeter's ice cream and Skyline chili.
Oakwood has changed as little as ANY suburb I have ever known. Pretty place!
I haven't heard about the mall on 675--must be south of Dayton.
There's a Trader Joes now!!

I hadn't heard of it either. Looks like it is in Beavercreek.

After looking at the web site more, it reminds me of Santana Row in San Jose. Have to check it out -- thanks.
