Quiche Hunting in Falls Church/Manassas Area
We're heading up to Manassas, Virginia, for our granddaughter's high school graduation on Friday 6/10. The following morning we are providing breakfast to around 15 family members at our daughter's house. We'd like to pick up some pastries, fruit tray, and quiche (hopefully cooked and warm). We're staying in Falls Church, breakfast is in Manassas. In our area, Publix supermarket deli carries quiche, but quiche is eluding me in online searches in the Falls Church/Manassas area -- any recommendations? Thanks!

For high quality, try the Whole Foods Market in Falls Church (on Leesburg Pike.) There might (I'm not certain)also be one in Manassas or nearby Centreville. As backup, and not as sure to have these items, are the dominant supermarkets in the area, which are Giant and Safeway in that order, both of which are represented in Manassas, I'm sure. If you call them, and the individual store you reach does not have what you need, ask them for a larger nearby store of their chain with a larger bakery/deli. The stores in both chains vary quite a bit in size and offerings.

In addition to the Whole Foods store in Falls Church, there is one in Vienna, VA (not out of the way going to Manassas on I-66) on Maple Ave (Rte. 123).
I suggest you call the Pie Gourmet, also in Vienna, at the intersection of Maple Ave. and Nutley St, 507 Maple Avenue West Vienna, VA 22180. Phone: (703)281-7437. They may make quiches in addition to their wonderful pies.

I equally recommend the Vienna Whole Foods store which Travel Fan mentions above. It will depend on where in Falls Church you are staying which of these two would be more convenient for you on your way to Manassas. If you are staying in a hotel there, and wish to identify it to us, we can probably tell you quickly.
Unfortunately, I checked and there is no Whole Foods in Manassas.

sludick, my original guess was that you might be staying in one of the several large hotels in the Tysons Corner area which have Falls Church addresses, which is why I recommended the Leesburg Pike location of Whole Foods. You will actually be over on the other side of Falls Church, though, and from there I think it would be more convenient for you to stop at the Whole Foods in Vienna which Travel Fan suggested, and avoid the Tysons Corner traffic.
From your hotel on Fairview Park Dr., take the nearby onramp to I-495 North and in a couple of miles exit to I-66 West. In another couple of miles, take the Nutley St. North exit. Follow Nutley, again for about a couple of miles, through a residential area to Maple Ave. (it'll be the first commercial street.) Turn right, and in about half a mile you will find Whole Foods on your right.
If you decide to use the Pie Gourmet that Travel Fan also suggests, the route's the same, just a little shorter. It's in the little outdoor shopping center you see on the other side of Maple when you reach it via Nutley. It's been years that I've been resolving to try it someday.
In either case, I'd be sure to call the place you choose to find out if they can can do what you need, whether you should place your order now, and if they can't do it, where else nearby they might suggest. Also, in either case, you would go back the way you came on Nutley to I-66 and continue going west on it about 10 miles (be especially kind to other drivers on I-66 West--one of them will be me driving to work.) Take the exit to Route 28 South and follow it into Manassas.
While you're in the area, don't forget that a terrific new branch of the National Air and Space Museum has opened here (it's a few minutes north on Route 28 from I-66.) See the Enola Gay which bombed Hiroshima, a Concorde, a Space Shuttle, and many other aircraft from the 1930's onward. Also, you might be interested to know that a stone's throw from your hotel, in the office building at 2941 Fairview Park, is the 2941 Restaurant which is currently one of the three or four best-reviewed restaurants in all of Northern Virginia. I have not eaten there myself yet, but it's supposed to be really outstanding (with corresponding prices.)
Congratulations to your granddaughter, and I hope you enjoy your stay in our area.

Well, breakfast was a success thanks to all your help. Whole Foods could not accommodate us; however, Giant on W. Broad St. in Falls Church provided us with 3 nice quiches, a really good fruit platter, orange juice and Starbucks ground coffee. Panera was only a few blocks away and was our source for an assortment of scones, bear claws and coffee cake. No did not hit any traffic but did get to see some beautiful rose landscaping. We were surprised to find dogwood trees still in bloom in the Fairview Park area -- lucky, I guess. Unfortunately, we did not have free time to see the National Air and Space Museum, we'll put it on the list for our next visit.
It was quite a moment, seeing our oldest grandchild graduate high school. Thanks for the good wishes and help.
