Husband and I have about a week at the end of January to tour this part of Louisiana. We will be spending 3 nights (2 days) in New Orleans having been there twice before. We are now interested in seeing some of the scenery and sites west of NO.
Question--is it worth the time to drive from Paradis on 90 then route1 down to the end, Grand Isle. What would we see? It seems that it will take most of the day and we will spend the night in Houma.
Next we will leave Houma and travel toward Lafayette, taking in Avery Island and the Jungle gardens. Anything in this stretch that we shouldn't miss? We are considering staying in Breaux Bridge for 2 nights (1 day) to visit the sites of the Cajun country.
Question--how to get to Natchez from Lafayette area--We like scenery, not necessarily the fastest route. Hotel recommendation in Natchez will be appreciated.

Trip Ideas
If you've never seen the delta and marshland, then the drive down to Grand Isle would be interesting. Please note that January is the "off season" in Grand Isle so the town would pretty much be dead then.
I would visit Shadows on the Tech and St. Martinville. Those are your best bets.
The Natchez Trace Parkway would probably be the most scenic route to Natchez and is fairly direct. I've been on that route and it's quite nice.
We did a family road trip years ago and took the Natchez Trace Parkway too. It was well worth it and we have wonderful memories of seeing interesting wildlife.
Thanks for answering. I guess I didn't finish my thought about "north to Natchez". We will be going no further north than Natchez and wish to return back to NO or at least route 12 as we then will head east on 10 through Miss. and Alabama.
The Natchez trace parkway does seem interesting and I am still trying to find a way to include it on a trip. Now I am asking how to get to Natchez from the Lafayette area, then from Natchez back to NO. the most scenic, interesting way. South of Baton Rouge we will follow the Miss River and visit a couple of the plantations.
Another question--It looks like New Iberia might be a better place to stay for the two nights we will be seeing Cajun sites instead of Breaux Bridge--what do you think?
Finally what should we see in Lafayette? Years ago, I was there and ate at Prejeans and listened to music. Is it still there?
Thanks, Margo
