Questions on trip in Colorado including Rocky Mt National Park in late Sept

Jump to last reply

My husband has a work trip to Estes Park in late Sept (2014) so we've decided to make a family vacation out of it with our kids who will be 1.5 years and 5 years old. The Estes Park meeting is the last 4 days of the 8-day trip we will take. My husband only has to work in the mornings during the meeting, so will have afternoons in the park with me and the kids.

Where would be a good place to spend our first 4 days? Since we live at sea level and Rocky Mt. National Park is pretty high up, I thought it would be smart to get the kids acclimated during our first 4 days by doing something around 4,000-6,000 feet so that they'll be ready for high altitudes. We like nature and hiking, though nothing very strenuous since the 5 year old will need to be able to do it (we'll carry the little one).

Should we try to spend more than just 4 days at Rocky Mt National Park? If the best thing in the area is the park, we could just focus on that. We'll fly into Denver, and don't want to do too much driving out of the way to Estes Park.

Thanks for any suggestions of places to go/hikes to take with little kids in the area!
