We'll be in Sedona for only one night in mid September...arriving probably early afternoon, leaving mid morning the next day. If you have stayed there, looking for your thoughts on would it be worthwhile getting a "view" room for $129 or would the standard King garden view room for $75 be sufficient? I'm assuming we'd be "out and about" to see the sunset anyway, and only using the room for sleeping. How far is Sky Ranch Lodge from shopping and restaurants? Thank you so much for any "guidance" you can provide.

I wouldn't bother about a 'view room.' Just walk a few yards to the overlook and you have an incredible view of West Sedona, Coffee Pot Rock. I stayed at Sky Ranch in Feb 2004, found it rustic but comfortable. You will need to drive to shopping - uptown Sedona is a ways up the road.
We stayed at Sky Ranch last year. A nice place for the price. It's a motel- like complex situated high on a plateau about 10 minutes from the downtown (up a somewhat winding road). As the above mentioned, some of the best views in Sedona are a few hundred feet from the motel entrance. Sky Ranch is a relaxing place with some very nicely landscaped grounds.
Thank you, Vicki and Zootsi! Another quick question -- if choosing between Sky Ranch Lodge location or something closer to uptown, what would you (personally)choose?
I was there last fall. I had the garden view room, but the friends with me got a "view" room. We really enjoyed sitting on their deck with a glass of wine watching the sunset, which was really nice. So I guess it depends how much a quiet peaceful view of the sunset is worth to you.
I would definitely stay there again. There is plenty of parking in town, so it's easy to drive down when you want to walk around down there.
Also, in the morning, walk up to the airport for breakfast (I know that sounds weird, but trust me!).

Thanks, Karen. Will do some more thinking!
Sky Ranch is known for its views. I've stayed in Sedona in no view rooms. If I were staying at Sky Ranch, I'd definitely choose the view. I'd also plan time to enjoy it. At least, a drink or two while I relax. Probably take-out enjoyed in privacy.
Have a wonderful time. The biplane ride is a blast too!
