Question about architecture boat cruise?

Hello,
We will be visiting our daughter in Chicago from July 30 through Aug 2, and want to go on the architecture boat cruise. How far in advance should we make reservations? I checked the long range weather forecast & right now the weathermen are predicting nice weather for the duration of our trip. I don't want to go on the cruise if it's pouring rain. Which boat cruise is the best?
Thanks!

We made our reservation the morning of the day we wanted to go. (We were also there the first week of August).

We didn't have any problems. The boat cruise was outstanding and we thoroughly enjoyed it.

Check the forecast a couple days before you want to go, then make your reservation. The most highly regarded are the tours offered by the Chicago Architecture Foundation, www.architecture.org or the Chicago History Museum, www.chicagoline.com.

Thanks for your replies.
Nanabee, did you go on a weekday or weekend? Our only choices will be Saturday or Sunday, which i assume will be more crowded than a weekday, which is why I am hesitant to wait until the day we want to go. I might order the tickets on Thur (July 29) if the weather still looks promising. Did you do the Chicago Architecture foundation cruise?
Citylghts, I went on to the website & like the Chicago Architecture Foundation cruise.

The Chicago Architecture Foundation river cruise is by far the best option. I have taken it many times and always learn something new. Nice experience.

Thank you for this information, I'm going to Chicago at the end of August and want to take this river cruise too. Does anyone know what is the most comfortable -- and best for photography -- the morning cruises or the evening ones?

Thanks?
