Thanks!

We really enjoyed the food and music at BB King's.
The classic is the Bluebird Cafe.
Yes, the Bluebird is the classic, but the emphasis is on listening, singer/songwriter stuff--no audience chit chat, not rowdy at all, and it is not downtown, but in a strip mall (I think), not outside town or anything, but not where the rest of the Nashville spots are located.
Bluebird is in Green Hills and it is great but very small so get there early. I would recommend the Station Inn in the Gulch area. You never know who might show up here. Vince Gill plays there alot. Very cool vibe. There are several other fun places in the Gulch to go as well. Listening Room Cafe is fun in Cummings Station just off Demonbruen. There are tons of places down on Broadway but will definitely be filled with tourists. Have fun! Enjoy our town!
Thanks! Bluebird is sold out for the Friday night in question - and you have to get there 2 hours early. Unfortunatly I am not going but planning someone elses time
The Station Inn was my immediate first thought as well. I don't know anything about the band playing Friday, but it's the "quaintest" venue around town, I think. Looks like a sketchy hole in the wall in the middle of all the new condos and restaurants around it, but it's been around for years. (Don't eat there, though. It's microwave food. Plenty of good places in walking distance.)

The Bluebird is indeed in a strip mall - I love going there for a show, but it's a very different vibe, as musicfan noted. With the popularity of Nashville it's been selling out even more often than usual.
