Pununa Aloha cottage Kauai

I was curious if anyone has stayed at this cottage. Also, I know that it is near the end of the road and I have heard that near the channel it is not good for snorkeling. What are your thoughts?

Hmmm...I did a google.com search for "pununa aloha" and found nothing. I live on the north shore of Kaua`i, but haven't heard of this rental.

If you can post a website for the property (or a different spelling??), I'll be glad to check into it for you.

We stayed there a couple of years ago. (It's the small white Nakea house at the end of the road, auntiemaria.) Great place to stay if you like peace and quiet, beautifully maintained and, depending on when you go (we were there in Dec-Jan), you get to pick as many grapefruits as you could possibly want from their tree. There were also a couple of friendly resident outdoor cats whose company we enjoyed. Very rocky in the water in front of the house, and if I recall, there were channels both to the right and left that ought to be avoided. We preferred to snorkel at the beach park, a longish walk (by my sluggish standards) or a two minute drive down the road. Good snorkeling to the right of the boat ramp there.

I believe this is the channel at the end of Anini where an elderly female tourist disappeared while snorkeling a few years ago. It's a beautiful, secluded area.

That's kind of scary... did anyone have any idea what happened to her?

The theory of the missing elderly snorkeler is that she drowned right in front of their rental house and was carried by currents out to sea. It was anguishing to see her husband in the paper every day searching and waiting for her.

kauaibound:

Oh that's a _great_ property! Set back from the road so you've got some privacy...nothing to obscure your oceanviews...and I vaguely remember that someone who'd stayed there recently, posted a _glowing_ report about the amenities of the house.

Have a great visit!! 8-)
