public transportation in Baltimore
I often visit Timonium and need information about how to get from there (I can get a lift to the transportation) to the Walters Museum and the Baltimore Museum of Fine Arts. I don't mind walking some of the way or taking a cab, but I am concerned about the safety in the areas I must travel through.

Light Rail from Timonium to Lexington Market stop, walk E toward Charles St. (away from the Market itself), and then north on Charles a few blocks and you'll be at the Walters. I've done that walk many times (a few weeks ago even) and wouldn't especially be concerned safety-wise.
I've never heard of the Baltimore Museum of Fine Arts and can't seen to find it by Googling. If you mean the BMA (Baltimore Museum of Art), that's a good bit north of the Walters Art Museum up by the Johns Hopkins campus. There are two buses up there (you pick it up on Charles near the Walters Art Museum)... the #3 and the #11... Or you could take an $7-10 cab each way... cabs ply up Charles St. and St. Paul St. with fair regularity. I used to take the #3 bus regularly and would typically be one of a small number of white people in a sea of mostly working-class black bus passengers, but never felt especially concerned.

From the Light Rail line, unfortunately there's really no direct way public transit-wise to the BMA. At least I wasn't able to discover anything after 3 years of living in Charles Village (neighbourhood immediately surrounding the BMA)
. The Woodberry stop is about the same latitude northward as the BMA (but not especially walkable) and if you could time it with the Hampden Shuttle Bug bus (unfortunately I don't think you'll find taxis here especially although you could call a Checker Cab), you'd get yourself pretty close (see Map).

Another possibility would be to go to the Penn Station stop and catch one of the plentiful cabs or the #3 or the #11 bus. (It's about a 10-minute bus ride or so, bit too far to walk.)
Honestly I'd probably go to Lexington Market Stop again, try some different sort of seafood specialty at Faidley's in the Lexington Market and then grab the #3 or #11 bus. But that's me...I find the Lexington Market a uniquely Baltimore experience and truly will look for any excuse to go! When I visited Baltimore for the first time in several years last month, the only thing I did other than visiting people I knew was to walk around Mount Vernon and get a Maryland Crab Soup at Faidley's in the Lexington Market. There's really nothing quite like the market here in Montreal where I live now.
