Has anyone traveled from downtown Washington DC to the new Udvar-Hazy Museum of the Smithsonian by public transportation? It looks complicated and inconvenient without a car from their website. Any thoughts? Thank you.

Fear not. It's really quite easy. You take the metro rail to the Rosslyn metro station and switch to the 5A metro bus upstairs at street level. From there the bus will take you to Dulles. At the same drop off point from the metro bus you will board a Virginia regional Transit bus which will take you to the museum. The cost is about $3.00 each way and takes about 45 minutes each way. I recommend you visit the metro web site as well as the VRT web site for schedules. The museum is free but the parking is $12.00 so if you already have a car you may want to drive but no need to rent one just for this. No matter how you get there, GET THERE. This is a truly amazing place if you are into air craft. You can spend 4-5 hours in the museum. ( or more )
