Providence for less than $100/night?
Will be visiting Brown and RISD in March and would like accommodations for two nearby for less than $100 per night, if possible. If not possible, please suggest viable alternatives. Will parking be a problem if we need to stay in another town?

No problem with Priceline. Check www.biddingfortravel.com for pointers.

I was in Providence over the summer and got a $55 rate from Priceline for the Radisson. It's a very nice property, but bit out of the way--you could still walk if you needed to (maybe 20 minutes?) or drive (about 5 minutes to either school) or see if the hotel's complimentary shuttle is available (we did that one evening) or call a cab ($5?). The savings were worth the slight inconvenience
Most of the other hotels closer to downtown are available on Priceline for more money (I've seen the Marriott come up, but that;s not the most convenient either). The most convenient I can think of are the Westin (most expensive, used a lot for conferences too) and the courtyard by Marriott (looked very nice)

Jill,
The Downtown Holiday Inn should be under $100 at that time of year as is the Courtyard by Marriott(which is a brand new hotel). There's also an abundance of hotels/motels in the Cranston/Warwick area which is a 10-15 min. drive from RISD & Brown.
A visit to oso.com should help.

I stayed at the Holiday Inn downtown in November of 02, and found it adaquate. I booked it through Travelocity for $95 a night. The hotel had parking but I didn't drive so I can't provide details.
I didn't make it to Brown, but I did walk to Federal Hill without a problem. In fact, I thought Federal Hill was the highlight of my trip with the wonderful Italian resturants.
