In Central Ohio, about 300,00 customers are without power till possibly Fri 7-6 or Sat 7-7. Parts of our city DO have power. If I do Priceline and get a hotel for 5-7 days, what guarantee (if any) do I have in getting a hotel w/ A/C? Do I have any recourse if this happens? I would not want to pay 5cents for a hotel room without air, as it's 97 degree here and we have been without since Friday. Thoughts? Suggestions?

I got a room for DH when he was on a road trip 2 summers ago. I used Hotwire. I booked it for the same night. When he got there, there was no power at the hotel and Hotwire refunded the money. But what happens if you get a place that has no power via Priceline. You call and they say ok, we will refund your money. Then you try again, and once again, you get one w/out power. How many times do you think Priceline is going to let you keep getting refunds. They can see your history.
I think I would just book directly with a hotel that I know has power. I am sure the rooms will be $$$ but I can't imagine how else you are going to get this to work.
First of all, the chances of landing a winning priceline bid when everybody else is demanding rooms in the area, are very slim.
Secondly, why wouldn't you first attempt a one- or two-night bid, and then potentially 'extend' your stay at the same price IF you find the accommodations suitable?
Nextly, just how many big hotels are doing business without AC in the east/central part of the USA these days?
Finally, a person's (Priceline) History doesn't come into question when said person is making a perfectly REASONABLE request for, oh, say, a hotel with working POWER.
It seems to be that trying to use Priceline when obviusly these rooms will be at a premium - it probably just wasted time. I would try first to figure out which hotels have AC and see if they have ANY rooms available.
I know here if there werre limited power any hotel with AC would be full in about an hour. An emergency is not really the time to look for a discount - it's the time to be happy for any room at any price.
