Priceline Car Rental - Fees??

Has anyone rented a car through priceline and when you turned your car in you had to pay additional fees?

My friend went to Maui for their honeymoon and they had to pay $60 for island fee and miscellaneous fees. This fee wasn't included in their package.

I went to Maui in September and got my rental car through Priceline - there were no additional fees. There are only extra charges if you want insurance or something like that, which is usually not required since most insurance already covers rental cars.

When I've used priceline in the past, I never encountered additional fees after bidding, HOWEVER, priceline usually includes suspiciously higher fees on top of the per day charge. For instance, a mid-size rental through priceline at $18 a day might sound great, but after all fees and taxes, the total came up to $205 for 8 days. Booking directly though the lowest available car rental (in this case Alamo) the same car was only $141 TOTAL. Long story short, though Priceline hotels are a pretty good deal, the car rentals are not all they're cracked up to be.

Priceline's help page on car rentals indicates that for regular car rentals there may be fees or service charges at the counter. And for their package deals that include car, the priceline price quoted is actually an estimate and you don't pay for the car up front. You pay for the car rental at the counter when you return the car, and there may be additional fees.

I don't know how often it happens, but priceline does indicate it's possible on their site.

I recently rented a car (Alamo) through Priceline. I had already reserved an economy car for 2 weeks in Kauai, also Alamo, then made a bid for a mid-size at a much lower price and got it! Our total for 2 weeks was about $280, I believe.
