Hi!
I just booked Portland Square Hotel for a few nights in October. Does anyone know anything about this hotel? It sounds like it's in a convenient location (132 West 47th Street). I've never been to NY before so I just wanted to see if this hotel is okay or whether I should keep looking. Or does anyone have any suggestions for a better hotel for girls on a budget? Thanks for the help! ![]()
Portland Square Hotel, anyone?

Hi, Liz!
I have a friend who visits Manhattan regularly for the Show scene, and he strongly recommends the Portland Square, which (he says) is moderately priced and is almost at the stage door of the Palace Theater. I have seen other good reports for it on this forum... a search should retrieve them. It was my first approach last December when I visited New York with my family, but, alas, the "budget" prices just weren't budget enough for us, so we reluctantly looked elsewhere. We finally found the Madison, which was such good value that we were able to do New York UNDER our budget. I think they still have special rates on their website (www.madison-hotel.com), so do check them out before committing to another place. You have to ring them directly to book, as they don't use internet agents, but you will be thrilled with the location (27th and Madison) and with the fact that breakfast is included. I recommended this to a family some months ago, and they sent me an email later saying how much they loved it, so this is not just one crazy Australian who doesn't care where he sleeps talking!
Went to check out the Hampshire Hotel when we were last in New york since we had heard good things about it. Saw the Portland Square Hotel across the street and it really looked nice. Very nice. Rooms are usually small in these budget hotels so it depends how many girls there are I guess.
