Please help with our trip to New York from the UK!
Hello
Would really appreciate some help on our impending visit to NY in August. It is a 5 day vist, to celebrate our son's 14th birthday! He has always wanted to visit the city so we are taking the plunge. Firstly, he is a big fan of WWF, so WWF NY is a must -does anyone have any tips on this place. My hasbandd and I aren't big fans, but will just have to go along with it for a few hours!
We want to do all the major sights - Empire State, Central Park, Statue of Liberty etc.
We arrive on a Sunday and fly home on the Friday. Our hotel is the Crowne Plaza on Broadway - are most things walkable from here?

WWF is very close to the Crowne Plaza. They have a website -- www.wwfnewyork.com.
Have never been there but I've heard it's a fun place.

One more thing --
A very relaxing way to see alot of the major sights and learn about New York is to take the Circle Line boat ride, which leaves from the pier on (I think)42nd Street on the west side of Manhattan. It's a 3-hour ride around the entire island of Manhattan and you'll see the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, Brooklyn Bridge (and all the others), Yankee Stadium and lots of other things without having to drive yourself nuts. Check www.circleline.com.

Don't miss South Street Seaport. The Piarates of Penzance is being performed on the Peking a four-masked barque docked at the seaport museum. Tickets can be bought right there for $35.00. Go to [email protected]

Crowne Plaza is at 48th and Broadway.
WWF is at 43rd and Broadway. Exit the hotel, turn right and walk to 43rd St - five minute walk.
Empire State - 34th and 5th. Walk south on Broadway to 34th. Make left on 34th and walk one block to 5th.
Central Park - exit hotel and turn left. Walk up Broadway to 59th Street and you will see the western side of Central Park.
Statue of Liberty- exit hotel, turn left and walk to 50th St. Enter subway (Make sure it says "Downtown") and take the first train that comes in (#1 or #9) to the last stop, South Ferry.
In addition to the places you mentioned all of the following are within a mile radius of the hotel - Intrepid Sea Air Space Museum, 5th Avenue, Rockefeller Center, NY Public LIbrary, United Nations, St Patricks Cathedral, Macy' and Blommingdale's department stores, Lincoln Center, Museum of Modern Art, RAdio City Music Hall, FAo Schwarz Toy
store and Grand Central Station. Natural History Museum is a less than 10 minute ride by subway (it is 1 1/2 miles due north of the hotel).

rqf has given a solid rundown of sites within a mile radius of the hotel. I'll add one more--the pier at the end of 42nd Street on the Hudson River from which the Circle Line cruise takes off from.
And, for those sites that are not within walking distance, you are in a great location for public transportation!
Your son will probably enjoy the planetarium show at the American Museum of Natural History.

Unlike London and Dover, NYC does not have writing on the streets saying "Look Left". Please be careful crossing streets. We want you to be able to come back to our country! (After living for 7 years in the UK and returning to the US to live, I now look BOTH directions automatically, every time I cross.)

It's just as well: the writing on the streets in London is sometimes lethally out of synch with new one-way systems!
If anyone goes to London, ignore the writing and look both ways!
